Croft houses and older Highland cottages almost always sit on suspended timber floors with nothing underneath, and on an oil-heated house that's a lot of money going into the ground. Underfloor and loft together is the usual recommendation. See a Nairn floor we did.
We cover Inverness, Nairn, Dingwall, Fort William, Aviemore, Ullapool and Kyle of Lochalsh. More about our work in Inverness & the Highlands.
If there's a hatch or crawl space we work from below: insulation fitted snugly between the joists and held with netting, with a breathable membrane so the timbers can dry. If there's no access underneath, we lift the boards in sections, insulate, and relay them properly. That's joinery, and it's what we do.
Solid concrete floors are insulated from above with rigid boards. We only go ahead when we can promise minimal upheaval and full restoration.
★★★★★Scot-Therm did an amazing job of our cavity walls and loft insulation. So helpful, quick, and hardly left a trace. Could not recommend them enough.
★★★★★Clean and professional outfit, solid communication from start to finish and we are delighted with the finished product.
Only if there's no crawl space. If we do, boards are relaid by a joiner.
Yes. Filling the void between the joists and sealing at the skirting is what stops cold air coming up.
A day for most suspended floors with access; longer where boards need lifting.
