Room-in-roof insulation in Inverness & the Highlands

One-and-a-half storey crofts and dormer bungalows are everywhere in the Highlands, with bedrooms under the roof that are cold all winter.

We cover Inverness, Nairn, Dingwall, Fort William, Aviemore, Ullapool and Kyle of Lochalsh. More about our work in Inverness & the Highlands.

What we insulate

A room in the roof loses heat through five surfaces: the sloping coombs, the flat ceiling above, the dwarf walls, the gables and the eaves spaces behind the dwarf walls. Most are bare or barely insulated.

  • Coombs: PIR or wood fibre between the rafters with a ventilation gap, plus a layer under the rafters to stop cold bridging.
  • Dwarf walls and gables: insulated and boarded on the cold side.
  • Eaves and flat ceiling: mineral wool or wool to the depth each needs.

Then plasterboard, ready for skim. It's joinery from start to finish, which is what we do. More on room-in-roof insulation.
