More of Edinburgh needs internal wall insulation than any other measure: the tenements, the Victorian terraces, the New Town, the colonies, the stone villas in Morningside and Trinity all have solid walls. In conservation areas it's usually the only option. We do the joinery properly so reveals, skirtings and cornices go back as they were.
We cover Leith, Portobello, Morningside, Corstorphine, Gilmerton, Currie and Musselburgh. More about our work in Edinburgh.
Recent jobs: wood fibre walls in Barnton and a full extension in The Grange.
Internal wall insulation goes on the inside face of the external walls: insulated plasterboard fixed direct, or a battened frame with mineral wool or wood fibre and a vapour control layer, then plasterboard and skim. Skirtings, coving, window reveals and sockets come off and go back on to the new wall line. On stone we favour breathable systems so the wall can still dry, and we check for moisture before choosing one.
It's joinery from start to finish, which is why a joiner-led firm does it well. Room by room if you prefer, coldest rooms first.
★★★★★Really impressed with Scottherm Insulation. The installers were organised, tidy, and clearly took pride in their work.
★★★★★Clean and professional outfit, solid communication from start to finish and we are delighted with the finished product.
Typically 60 to 100mm off each external wall.
It's a proper joinery job, done room by room so the house stays liveable.
Not with the right breathable system on a wall that was dry to begin with. We survey for moisture first.
An eligible, high-value measure under Warmer Homes Scotland and ECO routes for qualifying households.
