Victorian terraces, 1930s dormer bungalows in Corstorphine and Blackhall, and converted attics across the city often have cold coombed rooms. It's one of the jobs we're asked about most in Edinburgh.
We cover Leith, Portobello, Morningside, Corstorphine, Gilmerton, Currie and Musselburgh. More about our work in Edinburgh.
Recent job, Craiglockhart: new rafters, insulation between them and a taped foil vapour layer across the whole room, ready for plasterboard.
A room in the roof loses heat through five surfaces: the sloping coombs, the flat ceiling above, the dwarf walls, the gables and the eaves spaces behind the dwarf walls. Most are bare or barely insulated.
Then plasterboard, ready for skim. It's joinery from start to finish, which is what we do. More on room-in-roof insulation.
★★★★★Scot-Therm did an amazing job of our cavity walls and loft insulation. So helpful, quick, and hardly left a trace. Could not recommend them enough.
★★★★★Really impressed with Scottherm Insulation. The installers were organised, tidy, and clearly took pride in their work.
Yes. We insulate attic rooms, coombed ceilings and loft conversions across Edinburgh, starting with a free survey.
Usually the sloping ceilings do, to insulate between the rafters properly. Sometimes we can insulate over sound plasterboard at the cost of a little headroom.
Two to five days for a typical attic room, depending on size and how much needs stripping out.
It's an eligible measure under Scottish schemes for qualifying households. We'll check for you.
