Skye's 1970s to 90s council and self-build bungalows are cavity construction; the traditional croft houses are solid wall. Borescope survey first, and we're honest if the walls aren't suitable in an exposed spot.
We cover Portree, Broadford, Kyleakin, Dunvegan, Uig, Sleat and Kyle of Lochalsh. More about our work in Isle of Skye.
Every cavity job starts with a borescope inspection to confirm you have an unfilled cavity at least 50mm wide, clear of rubble, with sound brickwork and no existing damp. If the house isn't suitable we say so and quote for internal wall insulation instead.
If it is, we drill small holes in the mortar joints, inject expanded polystyrene beads under pressure until every void is filled, seal with colour-matched mortar and inspect for even coverage. Old, slumped or damp insulation can be extracted and refilled.
★★★★★Really impressed with Scottherm Insulation. The installers were organised, tidy, and clearly took pride in their work.
★★★★★Scot-Therm did an amazing job of our cavity walls and loft insulation. So helpful, quick, and hardly left a trace. Could not recommend them enough.
Houses built after the 1920s usually do; stone and pre-1920 homes usually don't. A borescope survey confirms it.
Only when installed badly or in an unsuitable house. We won't fill walls with existing damp or defective pointing.
We extract it and refill with modern beads. Often grant-funded.
One of the two most commonly funded measures. We'll check your eligibility.
